KRISTIJAN KARAPANCHEVSKI (HOUSE SOUND OF SKOPJE)
Skopje-born Kristijan Karapanchevski, an electro-technical engineer, has been a DJ for about 15 years. He started playing records in 1993, during his stay in Orlando, Florida. After returning to Skopje, he started playing at the biggest open air clubs in the city park, Tequila, Coca Cola Cabrio Club, and had his guest appearances in some cities around Macedonia. At that time his style was recognized as American-influenced, even though he spinned many European records as well.
"House Sound of Skopje" was established at the end of 1997 with the help of his two co-founders DJ Power and DJ Victor. The first official House Sound of Skopje party was promoted on 1 May 1998 at the city park, and with a help of the club MNT management and the City Hall, the party was well attended and the crowd reaction was very positive and showed that HSS was on the right way. Many other parties followed but the most famous and biggest one took place at club "Sachmo".
1999 saw HSS's first radio show named "House Sessions" and it was aired every Thursday from 8pm – 12 am on the most popular clubbing music radio station at that time, TOP FM.
During this period, Kristijan played almost in every underground club in Skopje like, Sachmo, Metropol, Aquadro, MNT, Surreal, Musandra, Apolon, club Havana where with his business partner DJ Power held a summer residence, and club Element where with his two partners had winter residence every Friday night during the season of 2001/2002. The same year he had another residency at the coffee bar called "Bizar", every Thursday and Saturday night.
The first international DJs hosted by HSS were Jason Jinx and DJ Lars. The party took place at club MNT on 1 June 2002, and it was attended by more then 1000 clubbers. After this event Kristijan along with his partner DJ Power were host DJs for numerous international DJ's like Josh Wink, Eddie Amador, Kevin Yost, Andy Morris from Narcotic Trust, Melvin Moore, Craig Walsh, Timewriter, Justin "Mojolators" Nichols. During the summer of 2003 Kristijan was a resident DJ in the summer club Coloseum for the following DJs: Christian Smith, Michel De Hey, Valentino Kanziani. He also spinned records at the Alarm Festival in Ohrid. During the summer season 2004 Kristijan played alongside Umek and Valentino Kanziani, Technasia, at the Coloseum club in Skopje.
Since November 2003 Kristijan holds his Thursday night residency at the Process club in Skopje. During this night numerous international dj's were presented by HSS. He played with the following DJ's during the 2003/2004 season: Eddie Amador, Terry Lee Brown Jr., Jay J, Dizzy, Chris Lum, DJ Pierre, Kaskade, Jon Marsh(The Beloved), Joeski, Crico Castelli, Onionz, Justin Harris, Alex Trax, Tony Hewitt, DJ Dayhota.
Apart of spinning records in the best clubs in Skopje, Kristijan regularly plays in different cities across Macedonia, like, Ohrid-club Park, Napoleon, Art, Strumica-Kaktus, Kicevo-M House, Medium, Stefano, Enigma, Sixties, Bitola-Iguci, GT, Prilep-The End, Kocani, Tetovo. He also held a Sunday residency at club Ring during 2004 season. Kristijan has spinned records several times in the very well known club in Sofia (Bulgaria) called "Chervilo". He has played in Tirana at Aquadrom and Durres, at the party ship called “4 Elements”.
During the summer 2004 House Sound of Skopje and Dj Kristijan took part in the “Tirana Summer Dance Music Conference”- organized by “South Europe Entertainment Group” where during the months of July, August and September Kristijan promoted international DJ’s on a weekly basis. Among the others: Andy Morris, Jason Jinx, Justin Nichols, Eddie Amador, Onionz, Jeremy Norris, Jon Marsh, Flavio Vecchi, Anthony Pappa were the djs who played at this event.
During 2004/2005 Kristijan continued with his residency at club Process in Skopje, and hosted the following DJs: Dr. Kucho, Luke Solomon, DJ FEX, Fafa Monteco, Didier Sinclair, Andy Morris, Jeremy Norris, Tony Thomas, Wally Lopez, Timewriter, Asad Rizvi, Jason Jinx, Mojolators, Josh Wink, Silicone Soul, Onionz, Johnny Fiasco.
He also played at the club The End in Prilep. The party was a part of the Coca Cola Fusion Festival and he was one of the five Macedonian DJs who took part in this event. He also played at the Coca Cola Soundwave Festival 2005, Ljubanista.
His style varies depending on the place and the people where he spins, but most of the time could be described as a smooth mix of deep tech house with some vocals, techy tribal house, mostly influenced by the American house sound. His style changed to minimal in the past year but he can be heard often playing deep house.
Right now Kristijan works on his own production as a logical progression to Djing all these years, and hopefully this material will be available to the clubbing audience very soon.
